GEORGE KLIEN

From our Archives: George Klein (aka GK) was one of the first teenagers to discover Elvis. He was 13, and Elvis, who had recently moved to Memphis, was in his class. They became lifelong best friends.  He saw Elvis perform everywhere from the Hume High School talent show to Las Vegas, and had small roles in several of Elvis’ movies. But George has a career of his own. He’s been in radio for over 60 years. Starting out as a sportscaster at legendary Memphis station WHBQ, he was asked to babysit out-of-control deejay Dewey Phillips, and segued into being a jock himself.  George – and Elvis – can still be heard on The Elvis Channel on SiriusXm.
